We are residents of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) and beyond who love where we live and dislike the sight of litter and its effects on our community and environment, especially it’s wildlife and marine life.
Our group is all about individual and family litter picks within our own patch whenever we feel like it and when we have the time-ten minutes or two hours- each volunteer decides. As we do this individually we are not tied to any planned start time which is usually the case with organised group picks. We aim to be visible in the community in the hope our presence will encourage others to manage their own litter.
Team DD carry out various activities through the year and link up with other groups and organisations such as ‘Litter Free Dorset-Land, Coast & Sea‘, ‘BCP Council‘, ‘Bournemouth University‘, ‘Sobo Wastebusters‘. ‘Bournemouth in Bloom‘ and ‘The Healthcare Team‘. We are proud of our association with COAST by creating a Coast Dorset Devil Crew who litter pick weekly as a group in and around Poole. Many have life challenges but with COAST’s support and encouragement they help people to become more independent and hopefully gain employment whether that’s voluntary or paid.
Additionally, we are Waste Partners at the Shake and Stir Vintage Music Festival in Southbourne (weekend event) and also take part in the ‘Great British Spring Cleans‘ and ‘Great Dorset Beach Cleans‘. We fully support the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme by kitted out youngsters and guiding them in the art of litter picking-88 youngsters on our books in the 2021/2022 cycle.
